Pursuing Excellence for All time

The Johnson Way

Johnson Roofing is a full-service roofing company serving residential and commercial customers. Our projects span South Texas to Oklahoma, primarily on the I-35 corridor and into Louisiana. Our corporate headquarters is adjacent to our family ranch, southeast of Waco, Texas.

Christianity and excellence are at the forefront of every endeavor our team undertakes.  These two beliefs, quality materials, and workmanship are the foundation of Johnson Roofing.

Johnson Roofing was founded in 1941 from Margaret and Jack Johnson’s home-building, lumberyard, and cabinet-shop businesses. In the mid-1960s, after Margaret and Jack’s son Bill graduated from Baylor University, a massive hailstorm hit Waco. Jack and Bill hauled shingles in a horse trailer and helped people get their roofs back on. That’s when Johnson Roofing ignited.

Under Bill’s leadership, we continued to serve residential customers. In the 1980s, our commercial projects significantly increased, and by the 1990s, we became one of the largest roofing contractors in Texas, where we remain.

Around 2010, we completed two unconventional projects – the Baylor Sciences Building and the McLennan County Courthouse.

For the 500,000 square-foot Baylor Sciences Building, we installed a concave and convex metal roof panel system, which is quite rare.

Due to the historical nature of the McLennan County Courthouse, work was performed under the Texas Historic Courthouse Preservation Program and Texas Historical Commission’s guidelines to bring the building back to its majestic glory. Our sheet metal shop restored and repaired the architectural ornamentation and the statues, including the 19-foot tall, 7,600-pound statue, Themis, whose home is atop the beautiful Courthouse.

We believe that the field team, supported by every other team, sets the bar for the project’s success. Every other team member supports the field team.

Bill’s daughter Sherri Johnson McDonald, our third-generation and current CEO, agrees.“My role is to guide the team and remove obstacles so everyone can do their jobs excellently. I provide every opportunity for training and every technology needed for maximizing efficiency, which is carrying on exactly done all these years.”

The goals are simple at Johnson Roofing: 1. Everyone going home safely every day, and 2. Excellence in all work.
